Halloween Dog Treat Recipes

Halloween is just around the corner so it's time to stock up on some tasty sweet treats, but don't forget the dog friendly versions too! 

Say happy Howl-o-ween this year with these fa-boo-lously tasty Halloween dog treat recipes.

Pumpkin & Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Ingredients: 

  • Flour 135g
  • Oats 65g
  • 1 egg
  • Pumpkin puree 95g
  • Peanut butter 45g (natural and xylitol free)
  • 1 tsp turmeric (did you know turmeric is great for dog’s joints!)

Method: 

  1. Preheat the oven to 150°C
  2. Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl to form a dough
  3. Place dough on baking paper and roll flat with a rolling pin and extra flour to about ¼ inch thickness
  4. Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes (or make your own) and place on a lined baking tray
  5. Bake for 20 minutes
  6. Let them cool before serving them to your dog
  7. Store in an airtight container

Strawberry Ghosts Dog Treats

Ingredients: 

  • Strawberries
  • Greek yoghurt (xylitol free)
  • Peanut butter (natural and xylitol free) 

Method: 

  1. Slice the stems off the strawberries and hollow out the middle
  2. Gently stuff the strawberries with peanut butter
  3. Dip the intact end of the strawberries in a bowl of yoghurt to coat
  4. Freeze for 2 hours
  5. Re-dip them in the yoghurt and make eye holes
  6. Freeze for another hour
  7. Serve at room temperature

Zombie Fingers

Ingredients: 

  • Oat flour 155g
  • Finely diced bacon 32g
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter (natural and xylitol free)
  • Pumpkin puree 135g
  • 1 apple, grated (save a couple of slices for the fingernails)
  • 1 egg

Method:

  1. Preheat your oven to 150°C
  2. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well
  3. Mould the mixture into finger-shaped logs and place on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
  4. Cut the slices of apple into fingernail shapes and place on the tip of each log
  5. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes 
  6. Allow to cool before serving

Halloween Dog Treat Recipes

 

Frozen Eyeballs

Ingredients: 

  • Greek yoghurt 900g (xylitol free)
  • Blueberries
  • Water
  • Strawberry jam (natural)
  • You’ll also need an ice tray, a sphere-shaped one if you have it

Method:

  1. Place blueberries in the centre of each section of the ice cube tray
  2. Slowly whisk water into the yoghurt in batches until it is a pourable consistency
  3. Pour the yoghurt on top of each blueberry in the ice tray until full
  4. Place in the freezer for five hours or until frozen
  5. Dip a toothpick into the strawberry jam and draw veins on the eyeball before serving
