Doberman Pinscher

Beloved by film directors for their dramatic appearance, the Doberman Pinscher’s sleek, pointy looks belie a beautiful, loyal and hard working dog. Originally bred in Germany they are beloved by police, security and rescue agencies for their intelligence, obedience and robustness. It is these characteristics that also make them great dogs for families as they are watchful and protective by nature.

They are also pretty big dogs – weighing in at around 60-80lbs – and very active, needing a lot of exercise and stimulation. These traits can make them unsuitable pets for some families – much more so than their temperament.

Healthwise, the biggest threat to a Doberman’s health are heart and back issues. A good diet of high protein dog foods enriched with essential vitamins and oils can be great mitigation against these conditions, and we recommend our raw dog foods in particular for Doberman owners.

As ever though, we recommend talking to the RSPCA, your local vet or the Kennel Club for a fuller picture of the health requirements of a Doberman Pinscher.
